Grantville Action Group Updates July 14th, 2010 Vote for GAG to be on "Freedom Watch" Judge Andrew Napolitano hosts a show on Fox News called "Freedom Watch." This show covers issue relating to the U.S. Constitution and personal liberty. Our issue of eminent domain and redevelopment abuse in Grantville is listed on the show's website. If we get enough votes, they will do a show about us. If you have not done so, please go to this link: http://freedomwatch.uservoice.com/forums/16625-freedom-watch-show-ideas/suggestions/837451-eminent-domain-abuses-g-a-g-in-san-diego-ca?ref=title . Vote for Grantville and leave a comment. We could get national coverage! (Forward this link and tell your friends to vote, too. I hear you can vote more than once; everyday even.) Lawsuit Update Our day in court to overturn the transfer of over $31 million in Grantville tax dollars to downtown has been reset to October 29th. As I mentioned previously, our most recent legal invoice was about $10,000, which brings us essentially to our agreed-to cap with attorney Craig Sherman. He is now working at his own expense on our behalf. To those business and property owners who have not contributed to our cause in a while, now is the time to support your interests in Grantville. To residents who don't necessarily want to share their community with 25,000 new residents, now is the time to be heard. Contribute to the cause of Redevelopment Reform for Grantville and fight back against Eminent Domain! Thank you to those folks who continue to help fund the cause. No one could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing, because he could do only a little. -- Edmund Burke Congressional candidate Michael Benoit Event Mike is a long-time friend of the Grantville Action Group. As you know, the City Council approved the removal of the protective Over Lay Zone Ordinance. At that time they also imposed a legal Relocation Benefit Package payable to the residents by the developer. However, it seems that the developer does not want to pay us until they are ready to commence construction. So, we have been held hostage in our own homes, unable to collect the benefit package and move on with our lives. In these past two and one half years (since the developer purchased the park) we have had 16 residents die. The developer refuses to pay their heirs because these people were not displaced by the developer. Thirty-four residents were forced to move due to personal crisis (the developer paid pennies on the dollars for their homes because they also were not displaced) Our rents have been raised while the park is being closed, and in essence, we are subsidizing the developer's lost income from those who have passed on. The park is in a state of demolition. It is a very depressing environment and we need to be able to move on! Our legal fees are astronomical, as you can imagine, as we are fighting a very big money machine. They don't need to worry about cost, but we do. You supported us through the political process. We are hoping you will help support us with the financial cost of justice by attending our fund raiser. We will receive 20% of the days gross. Any questions contact, Gloria Hanson 619-269-6741.
